Events and programming

The Department of Parks and Recreation is pleased to provide to our community and visitors, special events and programming throughout the year.

Sedona WagFest & Fair

Dogs and dog lovers are invited to the inaugural WagFest & Fair! 

  • Saturday, September 29th
  • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
  • Posse Grounds Pavilion
  • FREEdog and owner

WagFest & Fair is the perfect day out for dogs and their two-legged friends (owners/family). This canine resource event will feature booths where you can stop, shop and learn from the area’s best dog-related product and service providers.  Demonstrations and contests will be scheduled throughout the morning.   It’s FREE, fun, and family-friendly!

For the safety of the dogs and owners, please observe the following rules:

  • All dogs must be current on vaccinations.
  • All dogs must be kept on a leash.
  • All dog handlers must be 18 years or older and supervise dogs at all times.
  • Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs.

Event Schedule:

9:00 a.m. Welcome & Parade: Take this opportunity to strut your dog's stuff across the Pavilion Stage! this is your opportunity to showcase your loveable four-legged friend to the crowd before visiting the exhibitors.

9:30 a.m. City of Sedona K9 Officer Reed & Max: Demonstration performed by K9 Officer Reed and his partner Max. Learn more about Max and the K9 unit.

10:00 a.m. Best Bark & Howl Contest: Here's the chance for your best friend to impress us with their how and win some extra cool prizes. The Best Bark and Howl Contest consists of three categories: "best bark", "most impressive howl" and "most surprising/unique bark or howl (meaning 'How did that sound come from that pooch?'). Contest winners will be determined by audience applause and feedback.

10:30 a.m. Off Leash K9 Training Northern Arizona: Is Fido a little too feisty? Does he go the other way when you say come? Professional dog trainer will discuss and demonstrate those basic commands all dogs can be taught and how that knowledge can create a deeper bond between you and your dog.  

11:00 a.m.  Dr. Todd Metcalf, DVM, Sunshine Holistic Veterinary Services:  “Wow, all my years of veterinary training and it’s just the food ?! ” Almost!  A brief sharing of healthier food options that can really make a difference. If time permits, Dr. Metcalf will discuss simple ways to heal “Leaky Gut”, which troubles animals as much as humans.  

11:30 a.m. Pet Costume Contest: Show off your pet dressed in their best costume for the popular Costume Contest! Each pet must wear a costume to be eligible and winners will be determined by the audience applause and feedback.
