Q. What are the primary functions of the Finance Department?

A. The primary functions of the department are accounting and reporting, accounts receivable, utility billing, accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts, cash management and investments. The City of Sedona Finance Department is also responsible for the annual audit and budget preparation.

 

Q. What are the typical cycles for the functions in the Finance Department?

A. There are multiple billing and payment cycles that take place in the Finance Department.

Utility billing sends wastewater bills at the end of the month. The sewer bills are billed in arrears. This means that billings are sent at the end of the period of usage rather than in advance. All bills are due on the 15th day of each month.

Payroll sends out paychecks biweekly. The City of Sedona belongs to the Arizona State Retirement System (A.S.R.S.) and Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (P.S.P.R.S).

Q. What are the Finance Department’s hours of operation?

A. Monday - Thursday, 7:00 a.m. through 6:00 p.m. except recognized holidays.

 

Q. What is the difference between water and wastewater?

A. Wastewater is discharged from various sources. Wastewater generally comes from toilets, shower, sinks, and other sources and is contaminated.

 

Q. How come my neighbor pays a different amount for wastewater?

A. Generally, there are two different amounts a sewer customer may pay. Regular flow toilets and low flow toilets are charged according to the fee schedule.  Please call the Finance Department at (928) 204-7185 for more information.

 

Q. What methods of payment are accepted to pay my sewer bill?

A. Payments can be made online or over the phone via Xpress Bill Pay.com using most debit and credit cards as well as electronic fund transfers (EFT).

B. When you pay in person, the City accepts cash and checks.

C. There is also drive up drop box located outside of the City's Administration building.

 

Q. What is the name of the trash company?

A. There are multiple trash companies that serve the Sedona area. Please refer to the “garbage and rubbish collection” section of the phone book.

 

Q. What is the name of the water company?

A. Arizona Water Company at (928) 282-5555 or Oak Creek Water at (928) 282-3404.

Q. Why do I need a City of Sedona business license?

“Business” means all activities or acts, personal or corporate, engaged in by any person or entity (or agent or employee of such person or entity) conducted for the purpose of apparent gain, benefit, or advantage, either direct or indirect. [Ord. 2010-16 § 1, 10-26-2010 (Res. 2010-30 Exh. A, 10-26-2010). Code 2006 § 8-2-1].

5.05.020 Business license required.
A. Procure Before Conducting Business. It is unlawful for any business to operate within the city limits without first having procured a current business license from the city and complying with any and all regulations of such business specified in the Sedona City Code, Sedona Land Development Code (LDC), and Arizona Revised Statutes. Said compliance shall include but not be limited to compliance with any and all zoning ordinances and specified building uses.

Q. Who do I contact regarding my property taxes?

A. Yavapai County Assessor’s Office at (928) 639-8121 or Coconino County (928) 679-7962 depending on which county your property is located.

Q. How much of my sales tax is returned to the City?

A. You pay 9.9 cents general sales tax on every dollar in Sedona- Coconino County. You pay 9.35 cents on general sales tax on every dollar in Sedona- Yavapai County. Three percent of the tax is returned to the City.

 Q. Do I have to charge and collect the city sales tax and for what?

A. Yes. The sales tax rate for Sedona-Coconino County is 9.90% and for Sedona-Yavapai County is 9.35%. These rates include the state sales tax of 5.60% and the city sales tax of 3.0%. The remainder of the percentage includes the county sales tax.

A. The C.A.F.R. contains comprehensive information about the finances of the City of Sedona and its operations. It also includes information about long term financial planning for the city.

Q. What is the fiscal year for the City of Sedona?

A. The City has a fiscal year that runs from July 1 through June 30.
