Off-highway Vehicles in Sedona
Greetings! To increase knowledge and transparency on the efforts surrounding Off Highway Vehicle (OHV) use and management in the greater Sedona area, the City of Sedona is pleased to present this newly created OHV information and resource page. This page will be updated on a regular basis to include updates and informational resources from other jurisdictional agencies.
What's going on today…
The city, in partnership with Coconino National Forest, Arizona Game and Fish Department, Arizona State Parks and Trails and Yavapai County, have secured a professional facilitation team (Southwest Decision Resources, or SDR for short) with significant experience in the region on outdoor recreation issues, to support an inclusive, collaborative effort to identify possible solutions to the high use issues being experienced in the greater Sedona area. This project has been officially named the “Greater Sedona Recreation Collaborative” and will have its own website for updates on those efforts coming soon. We’ll be sure to include a link here for that site.
The city is also working on a Scope of Work for the independent monitoring of OHV impacts in and around the city, as well as working with the Forest Service to assess short- and long-term placement of signage. Additionally, we will be working with Arizona State Parks and Trails to apply for grant funding for permanent signage.
The Forest Service will be purchasing new traffic counters to enable continued data collection on national forest lands at Broken Arrow and at other sites where data has not been collected in the past.
