Household Hazardous Waste and Electronics Collection Event

On October 5, 2024, this free event was hosted for city of Sedona and unincorporated Yavapai County residents. With record turnout of over 400 households, the drop-off successfully collected household hazardous waste, electronics, paper documents for shredding, and medical waste for proper disposal. The full list of acceptable and unacceptable items that were collected for this event is listed below.

What waste is accepted?

Hazardous waste
Adhesives
Aerosol paints and spray products
Antifreeze
Batteries including AAA, AA, C, D, 9 volt, rechargeable, and button batteries ( no lead acid or any other vehicle battery)
Fire extinguishers
Gasoline
Household cleaners
Kerosene
Light bulbs
Oil-based paints
Pesticides
Pool chemicals
Solvents
Stains
Standard grill and camping propane tanks
Thinners

Electronics
Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) TVs or Monitors (A maximum number of 20 CRTs will be accepted. First come first serve)
CDs/DVDs
Credit card machines
Desktop and laptop computers
Fax machines
Flatscreen computer monitors
Flatscreen TVs
Floppy drives and hard drives (External hard drives, flash drives)
Microwaves
Other computer equipment (Docking stations, keyboards, mice, metal computer racks, modems, routers, servers, switches, access points for WIFI)
Other small electronics (Power AC adapters, calculators, cameras, remote controls, tablets, two-way radios)
Other small household appliances (Blenders, coffeemakers, hairdryers)
Phones (Cell phones, office phones, conference phones)
Power cables and cords (Extension cords, power strips)
Power tools (batteries may stay attached)
Printers and scanners
Radios
Security cameras
Vacuums
VHS/DVDs and players
Video game equipment
Wires

Paper documents for shredding (a limit of 4 boxes per vehicle)
Only paper will be accepted - no cardboard, card stock, credit cards, etc.
Okay to include paper clips, binder clips, staples, rubber bands, and hanging file folders

Medical Waste
Expired vitamins
Over the Counter medications
Prescriptions
Sharps

What waste is not accepted?

Ammunition and fireworks
Bulky items such as furniture, appliances, etc.
Car or other vehicle batteries
Commercial business waste
Compressed gas cylinders other than propane such as oxygen
Explosives
Latex and acrylic paints
Motor oil
Radioactive materials including smoke detectors
Tires

Here are ways you can dispose of some of the items not accepted at this event:

Add kitty litter or sawdust to latex paint to dry it out and dispose with regular trash. The paint can may be recycled if the dried paint is removed from the can.
Vehicle batteries and motor oil can be returned to garages or auto supply stores.

What if I live in Coconino County?

In addition to participating in Sedona events, Sedona residents in Coconino County may drop off items year-round at the Flagstaff Hazardous Products Center. Hours of operation are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 8 AM to 4 PM. Visit www.flagstaff.az.gov/hpc or call (928) 213-2159 for more information.
