New employees accrue up to 6.5 weeks of vacation time in their first year. The City offers four ways to take time off:
Vacation
Vacation time for full time employees is accrued based on duration of employment, as follows:
- 0-3 years - 80 hours/year (3.08 hours/pay period)
- 3-8 years - 120 hours/year (4.62 hours/pay period)
- 8-15 years - 160 hours/year (6.15 hours/pay period)
- 15+ years - 200 hours/year (7.69 hours/pay period)
For department heads, vacation time is accrued as follows:
- 0-3 years - 120 hours/year (4.62 hours/pay period)
- 3-8 years - 160 hours/year (6.15 hours/pay period)
- 8+ years - 200 hours/year (7.69 hours/pay period)
Flexible leave
At the beginning of each fiscal year, July 1, all full time employees are eligible for a total of 96 hours flex leave time for the fiscal year, with 48 hours of flex leave available on July 1 and the remaining 48 hours available on January 1. Flex leave is pro-rated for new and part-time employees. Flex leave may be used for family/personal sick time, for an employee who is suffering from an illness or a disability which prevents him/her from performing his/her regular duties, or an illness or disability in an employee’s immediate family which requires the presence of the employee. Flex leave may also be used for personal leave by the employee. Employees may convert a portion of unused flexible leave to vacation time and/or Arizona Sick Time at the end of the fiscal year.

The City provides 88 hours of paid holidays that may include the following:
- New Year's Day
- Martin Luther King Day
- President's Day
- Memorial Day
- Independence Day
- Labor Day
- Veterans Day
- Thanksgiving Day
- Day after Thanksgiving Day
- Christmas Day
Arizona sick time (AZST)
Per AZ Prop 206, employees can convert up to 40 hours per year of unused flex leave time to Arizona sick time, with a total maximum accrual of 80 hours. AZST can be used in 1-hour increments for various health conditions, to care for a family member, or due to a public health emergency.
