The fourth recipient of the "Spirit of Sedona" award was the wife of T. Carl Schnebly and the woman for whom our community was named.

Sedona was a member of the fifth family to enter this area and a pioneer mother. During construction of the Schnebly Hill Road, she took apple cake and fresh bread on horse-back to the crew. The Schnebly home, located where Los Abrigados Resort now stands, was turned into a lodge where guests were treated with hospitality and served home cooked meals.

In the evenings, Sedona played piano and the guests joined in a sing-along. Sedona, known as Aunt Ona or Mother Schnebly in later years, helped found one of the first churches in the area. Her kindness and gentleness is a guide for us all. A monument honoring her stands outside the Sedona Public Library.
