Q. What are the functions of the department?

A. The primary functions of the department are accounting and reporting, accounts receivable, utility billing, accounts payable, payroll, cash receipts, cash management and investments. The department is also responsible for the annual audit and budget preparation.

Q. What are the Finance Department’s hours of operation?

A. Monday - Thursday, 7 a.m. through 6 p.m. except legal holidays.

Q. What is the difference between water and wastewater?

A. Wastewater is discharged from sources such as toilets, shower, sinks, and other sources and is contaminated. The city manages wastewater, but does not supply water. Water is provided by private companies.

Q. Why does my neighbor pays a different amount for wastewater?

A. Currently there are two different amounts a sewer customer may pay. Regular flow toilets and low flow toilets are charged according to the fee schedule.  The city is in the process of revising its wastewater rate structure.

Q. What methods of payment are accepted to pay my wastewater bill?

A. Payments can be made online or over the phone via Xpress Bill Pay.com using most debit and credit cards as well as electronic fund transfers. When you pay in person, the city accepts cash and checks. There is also drive up drop box located outside of the Administration building.

Q. Whom do I contact regarding my property taxes?

A. Yavapai County Assessor’s Office at (928) 639-8121 or Coconino County (928) 679-7962 depending on the county in which your property is located.

Q. Do I have to charge and collect the city sales tax, and for what?

A. Yes. The sales tax rate for Sedona-Coconino County is 10.4 percent and for Sedona-Yavapai County is 9.85 percent. These rates include the state sales tax of 5.6% and the city sales tax of 3.5 percent. The remainder of the percentage includes the county sales tax.

Q. Where can I view city financial information such as the budget and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report?

A. Follow this link to see budget and Comprehensive Annual Financial Report documents. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report contains comprehensive information about the finances of the city and its operations. It also includes information about long term financial planning for the city.

Q. What is the fiscal year for the city?

A. The city's fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30.
